Hi Shimure, thanks for sharing the example! Skipping of the motions would be effectiveness, since it involves prioritization of the key actions in the process and removing the unneeded activities away. Efficiency would be speeding up the process within the motions.

Interesting post.

Which reminds me of Mr Frederick Winslow Taylor’s time studies.

Some companies hire consultancies to look a process and suggest improvement methods in the production line in the development of actions.

For instance a process of laying bricks may take 12 motions prior to the study and 5 motions to do after the study.

Certain process could be skipped with the aid of technology or chemical advances.

For instance, in the preparation of the painting of an aircraft, it may require the following process,
1) stripping,
2) sanding,
3) alodine,
4) etching
5)rinse,
6) priming
7) painting.

However, with the invention of a product which is PREKOTE, the process is reduced to
1) stripping,
2) sanding,
3) prekote,
4) priming
5) painting,

Cutting the usage of manhours and getting the same effect. I suppose this is efficient use of time.
